CITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
The City Affairs Committee explores the workings of the city government, encourages citizens participation, and advocates for local issues and programs that evolve from LWV studies and consensus. Committee members observe City Council and Board of Elections meetings; review pending legislation and reports on such city issues as campaign finance reform, implementation of the Help America Vote Act, Charter revision, housing programs, and election activities.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Education Committee advances goals of improving education at all levels, ensuring access to modern and safe learning environments with skilled educators and appropriate funding. At present, in order to eliminate a budget gap of several billion dollars, the Governor has proposed sweeping cuts to education at all levels. How to articulate an educational vision that will ensure a quality education for the children and youngsters of New York in view of severe financial constraints is the task facing us in 2010.

HEALTH CARE COMMITTEE
This committee supports a single payer health care system to contain costs and provide equitable access; a basic level of quality physical and mental care; planning and regulation to ensure overall quality care; containment of costs without compromising accessibility; and enhanced budgetary appropriations for health promotion.

LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE
This Committee advocates League positions on selected issues of public policy, and also responds to "Calls for Action" that come from the State and National League lobbying offices. This year we have revived our efforts to "Reform Albany" in specific areas depending upon legislation that is introduced in both houses of State .

VOTER SERVICES
The Voter Services Committee is working to help all citizens be involved in the process of government by registering, becoming informed and voting.
