How does the League take Action?
Committees
City Affairs Committee, Chair: Kate Doran
The City Affairs Committee has positions covering areas of city government that are linked to Mayoral, City Council, and Board of Elections issues, budget processes, affordable housing, improving public education at all levels, and much more. Join, and you can help monitor the activities of our nation's largest city.
Telephone Information Service, Chair: Donna Landay-Laden
Telephone information service trains interested members to answer callers' questions about voter registration, polling locations, how to reach their elected representatives, and other important civic information. Excellent reference materials and experienced staff inform, train, and guide these volunteers.
Membership Committee, Co-Chairs: Nicky Heller and Elinor Miller
Share your people skills with the Membership Committee. We strive to attract and retain new members, men and women, who care about good government and want to be involved in achieving it. We are planning orientations that will introduce you to League history, how we govern ourselves and work together to improve the world!
Voter Services Committee, Chair: Hope Freeman
The Voter Services Committee educates voters about democracy and the responsibility to vote. We make presentations throughout the City and sometimes with speakers from other good government groups. We also train staff of community organizations to assist their members with voter registration. Speaking notes are available and training sessions will help you become confident and ready to enjoy this teaching experience.
Legislative Action Committee,
Co-Chairs: Evie Katz and Joanne Pugh
This Committee advocates League positions on selected issues of public policy, and also responds to "Calls for Action" that come from the State and National League lobbying offices.
Research and Administrative Activities
In addition to these committees, there are opportunities to aide with Research and Administrative Activities in the office. Have a skill or idea not listed? Tell us about it!
