The 2012 Elections are closer than you think! The League of Women Voters has long been recognized as the premiere source for nonpartisan election information. Our Voter Services Committee educates voters about democracy and the responsibility to vote. We make presentations throughout the City and sometimes with speakers from other good government groups. We also train staff of community organizations to assist their members with voter registration. Speaking notes are available and training sessions will help you become confident and ready to enjoy this teaching experience.

Whether you're seeking a presentation or assistance registering voters, the League has the resources you need. Contact us for more information.

Adrienne Kivelson Presenting

On Saturday August 20th, community leaders and organizers attended a League of Women Voters of the City of New York voter registration training seminar in mid-town Manhattan. After an introductory overview of the League, Voter Services Chair, Hope Freeman discussed voting and the upcoming elections. The discussion then turned to common reasons for voter apathy and ways to counter them. Adrienne Kivelson, Vice-President, followed the discussion with a walk through presentation of the training manual distributed to each participant. The manual includes a sample of the materials necessary to conduct an effective voter registration drive, and where to find registration resources.

The training session was attended by a well informed, enthusiastic group that had excellent questions about registration and how the redistricting process affects elections. We thank all attendees who spent the morning with us and we are grateful for the time they will dedicate to registering New York voters. Contact our office for information about the League, voting, redistricting, and how to request a voter registration training session for your group or organization.

LWV NYC Voter Registration went to the Volunteer Ventures Expo held at JASA (Jewish Association for Services for the Aged) on June 7. Our table had non-stop visitors all eager to pick up copies of "They Represent You 2011-2012," Vote411.org bags, and to learn about the League and ways they could volunteer.
LWV NYC participated in the FBI's Federal Women's Program on May 19. Voter Service Chair Hope Freeman gave a presentation of women's history leading up to the right to vote that FBI employees found both insightful and educational.
